ADHD GUIDE

ADHD
Understand Everything

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects attention, impulse control, and activity regulation. In Morocco, it remains widely underdiagnosed — especially among adults.

What is ADHD?

ADHD (also called TDAH in French or اضطراب نقص الانتباه in Arabic) is recognized by the WHO as a chronic neurodevelopmental disorder. It is characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that significantly interfere with daily functioning.

Contrary to popular belief, ADHD is not a lack of willpower or discipline. It is a real neurological difference involving dysfunctional dopamine and norepinephrine pathways in the prefrontal cortex — the brain region that manages attention, planning, and impulse control.

Neurobiology of ADHD

Dopamine
Motivation, reward, selective attention

Dopamine deficiency in the prefrontal cortex → motivation and attention maintenance difficulties

NALT (direct dopamine precursor)

Norepinephrine
Alertness, sustained attention, stress resistance

Low levels → distractibility, impulsivity, excessive emotional response

NALT (norepinephrine precursor via dopamine)

Acetylcholine
Working memory, learning, concentration

Sub-optimal cholinergic transmission → forgetfulness, learning difficulties

Huperzine A (acetylcholinesterase inhibitor)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between TDAH and ADHD?

No difference — they are two acronyms for the same condition. TDAH is the French term, ADHD is the English. In Arabic: اضطراب نقص الانتباه. Diagnostic criteria are identical (DSM-5 and ICD-11).

Does ADHD affect adults in Morocco?

Yes. ADHD is underdiagnosed in Morocco, especially among adults. Growing interest in searches for "adult adhd" and "adhd in Arabic" shows increasing awareness. Many Moroccan adults discover their ADHD late in life.

Are food supplements useful for ADHD?

Studies show that supplements targeting dopaminergic (NALT), cholinergic (Huperzine A), and energy (ALCAR) pathways can support cognitive functions. They complement medical care — they do not substitute treatment.
